About SpeakArtLoud

Our Program

SpeakArtLoud works to empower women and improve communities, using art as a medium.

Through an art class SpeakArtLoud works to empower women by focusing on creating and communicating the women's vision for the future. Through an art show SpeakArtLoud works improve communities by bringing community members together and encouraging women's vision in the community. 

• The Art Class
  
  • We offer a curriculum-based art class for small groups of women who have a shared experience.
  • Working with a trained instructor, women learn art making techniques and create art work, all while being encouraged to explore and express their dreams, ideas and vision for the future.
  • As a final project, the women create a work of art that expresses their vision for their future.

• The Art Show
  
  • We host an art show in the women's community, offering community members an opportunity to gather together and socialize.
  • The art on exhibit, reflecting the women's vision for the future, offers members of the community a chance to hear from women and consider new possibilities.

The Value in the Work of SpeakArtLoud

SpeakArtLoud knows that by engaging women in comminity decision making communities grow and prosper.  By supporting women in expressing their ideas and by offering the community opportunity to hear from women we can have a positive impact on the lives of individual women and on the well-being of a community.

SpeakArtLoud believes that by focusing on the future we can explore new ideas, look beyond the day-to-day, think big and imagine new possibilities.  By keeping the focus on the future we support new ideas and encourage women to shape their own future and the future of their community.

SpeakArtLoud understands that by using art as a tool we can express ideas and bringing people togeother. By using art as the medium we can express difficult ideas, communicate across barriers and bring people together in a way that is social and enjoyable. 

Populations SpeakArtLoud Serves

SpeakArtLoud partners with community-based organizations, non-profits, non-govermental organizations and other agencies providing services to women.  Examples of populations SpeakArtLoud works with include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Women who have survived violence
• Women in recovery
• Recent immigrants
• Teen mothers
• Retired women
• New mothers 

SpeakArtLoud Is an Innovative Social Profit Organization

SpeakArtLoud is an innovative social profit organization (yes, we are a non-profit but we believe our work creates social profit).  Drawing from research and practice in the fields of sociology, psychology, community development, public health and art therapy, we are innovative in the following ways:

Use of Art  

• We use art as the medium for individual women to explore & express their ideas, as a method to bring the community together, and as way for woman to communication with their community.
• Research indicates that art is a powerful medium for self-expression, a means to communicate sensitive or controversial information, and an effective way to bring people together.

Focus on the Future

• We offer an art class where the focus is on visioning the future, allowing the women participating to imagine new possibilities and offering the community new ideas on what their future could hold.
• Research shows that future-oriented thinking can have a positive impact on healthy behavior and provides individuals with a way of moving forward in their life.

Women's Voice

• We provide women with a way to explore their ideas and a venue to express their vision, we also give the community a forum to hear from women. 
• Research demonstrates that the single most effective way of improving the well-being of a community is by engaging and empowering girls and women in the community.

Sustainable Strategy

• We have designed a sustainable business model, including the use of a sliding-scale fee structure and a curriculum that can be licensed.
• Research indicates that non profit organizations that establish a financial plan that focus on sustainability are more likely to thrive and grow.
